LOMI LOMI NUI
YOUR PATH TO ONENESS
What is a Lomi Lomi Nui Massage?
It represents an ancient, holistic healing technique. Lomi Lomi Nui massages are part of indigenous Hawaiian rituals which are still being practiced today by the Kahuna people. For a long time, the Kahuna hid their knowledge from Western colonialists and tourists. Ka-huna means the guardians (Ka) of the secret (Huna). With the Christianisation of the Hawaiian population by American missionaries from 1820 onwards, the Hawaiian government banned the practice of the Polynesian religion. This also included traditional healing techniques. It was only in the last few decades that the Kahuna started to share their knowledge with the Western world. They felt it was time for the powerful impact of Lomi Lomi Nui to spread. The world needs it more than ever and people are more receptive to this type of medicine today.
The shamanic philosophy of the Kahuna people is called huna. According to huna, a person is healthy when energy (mana) can flow freely through their body. If the energy is inhibited at certain points, blockages occur. This will cause diseases and illnesses as well as tensions or even consolidation. Lomi Lomi Nui is all about cleansing the body energetically and gently letting go of all old, limiting energies. This will create space which can be then recharged with new, fresh, lightful energy that supports you. The massage will get the body moving again and restore the balance of body, mind and soul.
What Happens During a Lomi Lomi Nui Massage?
A Lomi Lomi Nui massage usually takes up to two hours. Traditinally, it may last even longer (four to six hours). The massage therapist usually uses a great amount of oil. They will not only use their hands but also both of their underarms. Movements are usually flowing, sometimes slow, sometimes faster and following a rocking motion. The traditional treatment is accompanied by Hawaiian music and chants to which the practitioners move in rhythm around the massage table.
Lomi Lomi Nui can vary in its intensity, even within the same session. The massage can vary from a slow, gentle, calming and relaxing manner to more rhythmic, stronger movements to loosen tensions in the deeper tissue layers or to charge the body with new energy.
Address Life's Transitions in a Mindful Way
Originally, Lomi Lomi Nui was part of initiation rites. In times of transition as well as for the ordination of priests and priestesses. This is why it is sometimes referred to as “Hawaiian temple massage” in the West. Even today, we can use the Lomi Lomi Nui here in the West as a type of ritual to assist our bodies in times of change and upheaval and to prepare them energetically for the next chapter.
If you want to create new space within for yourself, support your health and fill your body with new energy, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I would love to introduce you to this ancient massage technique.
